If you are an NDIS provider, you will usually need to consider professional indemnity, public liability and accident insurance. These are the insurance types identified in the NDIS Practice Standards. The right cover for your business depends on the supports you provide and the risks involved in your work.

The insurance NDIS providers need to consider
Professional indemnity insurance
This may help if someone claims that your professional service, advice, decision, error or omission caused loss or harm. It is important to discuss if your business provides professional, clinical, therapeutic, advisory or coordination services.
Public liability insurance
This may help if your business activity accidentally causes injury to another person or damage to their property. It can be relevant when you deliver supports in a participant's home, in the community, in an office or at another location.
Accident insurance
Accident insurance is also included in the NDIS Practice Standards. The cover you need can depend on whether you work by yourself, employ staff or engage contractors. If you are self-employed, ask about personal accident and illness cover too.
The NDIS Practice Standards say providers should have appropriate insurance in place, including professional indemnity, public liability and accident insurance. Read the NDIS Practice Standards.
