Carly Findlay is a regular contributor to MyCareSpace. She is also a proud disabled woman who doesn't want to change or hide her face. Carly decided to appear on You Can't Ask That because she is tired of dealing with the insensitive reactions to her appearance. "When I speak of the reactions some people have to my face, my friends are shocked. They don't believe it. But these things do happen. Some people think it's their right to know what's wrong with me, and expect me to be polite when answering them." Carly saw the show as a way to publicly address the questions she receives from strangers and before making hurtful assumptions.
You Can't Ask That is about "marginalised and misunderstood people taking ownership of these questions, and raising the broader communities expectations about us." People are saying that it is one of the most important shows currently on TV because it breaks down stereotypes and the stigma of disability.
Carly She wrote about her experiences on the show on her blog, and she said that it "has been an empowering one – I’ve been in control of how my appearance is portrayed."
The facial difference episode of You Can't Ask That aired on May 3rd on ABC. It will be available to watch for free in ABC iview until May 6th. You Can't Ask That airs on ABC on Wednesdays at 9 PM.
