Izzy and Ailbhe Keane, two sisters from Ireland, are on a mission to empower wheelchair users by transforming wheelchairs into a form of artistic self-expression.
Izzy Keane was born with Spina Bifida, and has used a wheelchair her whole life. As a naturally bubbly person, Izzy was frustrated that she couldn’t personalize her chair in a way that would reflect her personality. Her older sister Ailbhe from a young age would decorate her wheels, and in Ailbhe’s final year of art school she created a collection of fashionable wheelchair covers for her sister. Thus, Izzy Wheels was founded.
Izzy Wheels collaborates with renowned artists to create stunning wheel covers available to wheelchair users around the world. Izzy Wheels has just launched its most recent collection—a collaboration with print and fashion designer Orla Kiely.
"Colour and pattern can bring so much joy and to apply both to something so vital in people's lives to me was an absolute honour. I love the result and can't wait to see them in action!” -Orla Kiely
Wheelchair covers can bought online at izzywheels.com. The covers cost $209.11 AUD and come in pairs. A portion of all sales go to Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland.
The new collection is available for a limited time, so check it out today!
Living with a disability can have its challenges, but Izzy Keane proves you don’t have to let it get in your way. Izzy Wheels motto: “If you can’t stand up, stand out!”
