Accessible Beaches Australia

blue beach chairs on a white beach

So its holiday time and everyone loves to head down to the beach. Wheelchair or no wheelchair the beach should be accessible to us all. We've found this awesome website called Accessible Beaches Australia which provides a directory of accessible beaches across Australia. Each beach listed also has details around:

  • matting hours
  • availability of accessible showers, changerooms, hoists
  • availability of accessible parking
  • how to book a beach wheelchair
Here is their story........

"The Accessible Beaches campaign was founded in 2016 with a vision of making most patrolled beaches in Australia wheelchair accessible by 2020. Despite a challenging start, we're gaining strong momentum.
We've achieved huge wins campaigning with communities that have fought for decades to make their beaches accessible. We've supported the few good councils that have been proactive and supportive of their residents. We've coordinated the 5 largest beach accessibility events in the world. And this is just our grassroots beginning. We have a long road ahead, and we need your help. "

Please review their site and make a recommendation of a beach that is not already included!

The mission is simple: "We want to improve the quality of life for more than four million Australians living with a disability by getting them back onto the beach."

Still not convinced that you can get on the beach? Check out this video which shows how the beach ramp works
