Join us and learn about cooking & hospitality in a fun, social setting
Our Kitchen Hand (OKH) is an innovative approach to providing training, skill building,and community participation for people with disabilities.
It is centred around food preparation, cooking and service. The program will bring together up to 10 people per day in a purpose built modified
kitchen with the aim to help them develop a range of skills whilst participating in making a meaningful contribution to the community.
Activities & Skills
• Developing a range of food preparation and cooking skills
• Planning for shopping and cooking
• Learning skills in relation to food service
• Barista skills
• Preparing food and eating together as a group
• Opportunities for further experience in the food industry
Cost
There is a daily cost for attendance at OKH, which runs from 9am-3pm. This cost can be met either from an NDIS package or from the individual paying themselves.
NDIS
Participants of OKH will be able to utilise their NDIS funding under a number of categories:
Core Supports:
• Community participation in a group
• Community participation 1:1
• Assistance to access community, social and recreational activities
• Centre based group activities
Capacity Building
• Increased social and community participation
• Improved learning
• Improved daily living skills
OKH is being run by JewishCare in partnership with Our Big Kitchen, who have been an innovator and leader in community
cooking.
I would ask is that she comes with support on that day as it would be the first time we would meet her. On the day I would do a quick assessment to see what supports she would need if she decides to attend on a regular basis.
