What we do

Sargood on Collaroy is a world-first resort purpose built for people living with spinal cord injury.

Our entire complex is fully accessible, offering the very latest in adaptive technology, home automation, accessible equipment and daily living aids. We lead the way in wheelchair accessible accommodation in the world. We have 17 spacious, self-contained apartments that are purpose-built to make your stay as easy, comfortable and stress-free as possible. Located atop an elevated 4000 sqm site overlooking Sydney’s beautiful Collaroy beach and the Pacific Ocean, Sargood is built on land donated to the community as a place of healing and respite over 100 years ago.

Guests at Sargood on Collaroy can choose from an extensive range of leisure and recreational activities specifically designed for people living with spinal cord injury. From surfing to golf, ceramics to whale watching, Sargood on Collaroy is the perfect place to engage in new experiences and discover new skills. As part of your short-term accommodation package, our specialist spinal trained therapists will support you throughout your participation in our activities, making it a truly positive experience. Activities include surfing, snorkelling, swimming, kayaking, fishing, sailing, yoga, golf, cycling, mountain biking, rock climbing, table tennis, wheelchair tennis and more.

Educational courses run throughout the year as part of your stay at Sargood on Collaroy. They are designed to improve the skills and independence of people with SCI. Topics include returning to work/study, intensive exercise and more. Our thought-provoking courses and events are designed to facilitate learning and independence for people living with spinal cord injuries, their families and carers. Courses and events are available for guests staying on our accommodation packages. Examples of our recent courses include yoga retreat, photography course, return to work & study course, sports fishing, and scuba diving course.

It's exciting that Sargood happened and Sydney should be proud because I think it's a worldwide first - what I loved most:

  • location, location etc... (and opportunities for those interested to make use of the beach, and sea surrounds)
  • the discretion, look, design of the building which puts those with spinal injuries first without shouting "wheelchair city"
  • the great staff ("guest attendants) that ensure from calling up to find out if you have any requirements (5 star) and other needs once there.
  • consideration given to facilities offered like the accessible gym, meeting areas like lounges, kitchen etc and deck areas always making the most of the outside view.
  • the ease and relaxed nature of it all: personified by well chosen classy photography of artistically shot local features
  •  the enormous care that has gone into choosing not just these but all the furniture, fixtures, fittings
  • gym access ex physiology on site, guest attendants and the ability to test new equipment or get existing things maintained
